New GMC Acadia Coming to 2012 Chicago Auto Show. Acadia to arrive at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show in early February, according to GMC spokesman Joe LaMuraglia. When we pressed LaMuraglia to divulge more, all he said was that it "is more than a new trim level." Two years back, GMC unveiled a luxurious Denali trim of the Acadia at the Detroit auto show.
The announcement came from Twitter, presumably to remind people that GMC is still around; the General Motor's brand had nothing to show at this year's Detroit auto show.
The current incarnation of the Acadia has been on sale since late 2006 and was one of the first of GM's large crossovers to go on sale, followed by the Buick Enclave and the Chevrolet Traverse. It's definitely due for an update. Last year, GMC was GM's fastest growing brand and remains the carmaker's second-largest brand in America after Chevrolet

The whole 392 thing was a total coincidence. So says
Dodge Challenger chief engineer Tom McCarthy. In 2009, McCarthy and his team were discussing a punch-out of the Challenger SRT8’s rather peaky 6.1-liter V-8 for more midrange torque.
“I always thought that engine was tuned to the horsepower number,” says McCarthy, meaning that to reach the 425-hp benchmark engineers tuned the engine for revs to the detriment of usable torque. McCarthy and his team settled on giving the big-block a 0.9-mm increase in bore to 103.9 and a 3.6-mm stretch to the stroke to 94.5, for a total of 6410 cc.

General Motors has announced its final factory investment, a $275 million spend on the Fort Wayne, IN, plant that assembles full-size pickups.
Back in May, the General promised it would be spending $2 billion on factory investments over the next year and a half. A series of announcements followed, with upgrades promised to the Chevrolet Corvette factory in Bowling Green, KY, engine plants in Flint and Bay City, MI, and a powertrain facility in Toledo, OH, among others. Most of GM's money will be saying close to home in the Midwest, with over $1.4 billion spent in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio.
Today's announcement follows a previous earmark for production of the next-generation Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups। GM had already confirmed $328 million for Flint Assembly. Previous reports have indicated that GM will launch its redesigned pickups as 2013 models.

This big family truckster grew on me over a long weekend and a couple hundred miles of driving. I'm still not sure how I feel about the visual aspects of the Denali package (chrome wheels that look exactly like giant plastic hubcaps from AutoZone and bigger, lower body cladding), but the interior appointments were nice.
For the life of me, I could not figure out how to activate the head-up display (someone else had turned it on between photo sessions), nor could I reset the mpg counter. The trip odometers were buried as well. A quick breeze through the manual would have solved this, but I consider these types of nonintuitive telematics issues extremely annoying.
One thing the manual was absolutely NO help with was locating the USB jack for the iPod. I had to go online to discover it was in the dashtop compartment (probably not a good place for an electronic device in the summer), and in the dark I could not find the jack by feel. Once connected however, the iPod controls were easy to use.

HUMMER H3 Review.

The Hummer H3 was a midsize SUV that was produced from 2006-'09. A pickup-style model known as the H3T was produced only for 2009 and was equipped similarly.
Originally, the four-wheel-drive H3 came with a 3.5-liter inline-5 good for a meager 220 horsepower. Hummer addressed the power shortage in 2007, bumping it up to 3.7 liters and 239 hp. The inline-5 was the same engine found in General Motors' midsize pickups, and despite its increase, it was overwhelmed by this SUV's nearly 2.5 tons of curb weight. In our Hummer H3 road test, we recorded a 0-60-mph time of 11 seconds. Fuel economy wasn't all that great either. Fortunately, there was also the Alpha version of the H3, which arrived for 2008 and sported a 300-hp 5.3-liter V8 that provided more respectable performance. With the V8, the H3's 0-60 time drops to 8.8 seconds. A five-speed manual was standard on five-cylinder models, while a four-speed auto was optional with the I-5 and standard with the V8.

If 470 horsepower is fun, 570 raging stallions can be positively evil. Rumor has it that Chrysler thinks so too, and the automaker plans to unveil an optional tier of SRT vehicles with upgraded powerplants. Later in the year, the Dodge Charger SRT8 and Chrysler 300 SRT8 will reportedly be available with an Eaton-sourced supercharger that will up output to somewhere in the 540-570-horsepower range.
The option (which could possibly come in kit form to be installed at the dealer) will be offered on 2013 model year cars, and, if the rumor holds true, it comes with another upgraded feature to help meter out the extra go-fast energy. Chrysler will fit the four door sports cars with an eight-speed automatic transmission. We sure hope this all pans out.
Currently, this super extra only applies to the SRT vehicles riding on the LX platform. That means the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 isn't slated to get the upgrade. The Dodge Challenger rides on a modified LX platform known as the LC, but rumor has it the power boost will be available for that model as well.

First Drive: 2010 Chevrolet Equinox ushers in New GM era. The Chevrolet Equinox has never really been a loser in the compact crossover segment, but it has also never really been a leader, either. It was always just kind of "okay," with milquetoast styling, so-so performance and reasonable roominess, but never anything really attention grabbing. Coming just a week after General Motors filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, Chevrolet General Manager Ed Peper officially introduced the all-new 2010 Chevy Equinox as the first product of the "New General Motors," and it's clear that the company hopes their new baby is able to grab a much larger share of this burgeoning segment.
Among other things, the Equinox gets all new powertrains, including an available four-cylinder engine for the first time. Both the four and the new 3.0-liter V6 have direct fuel injection and are paired up with six-speed automatic transmissions. In fact, everything about the Equinox is new. Apparently the only major component carried over from the old model is the sunroof module. Everything else has been reworked or replaced. We had the opportunity to spend some seat time with both the four-cylinder and V6 models with front- and all-wheel drive.
Chevrolet calls the Equinox a compact crossover, but when you look at its dimensions, this CUV is in many respects more mid-size than compact. At 187.8 inches long, it out-spans the Ford Escape by 13 inches and the Toyota RAV4 by six inches. It's even two inches longer than a Ford Edge. Chevy's rationale for calling this a compact is the 72.5 inch width, which is 0.5 inches less than the RAV4 and two inches less than the Edge. So it's really a "tweener" of sorts. However you define it, though, the Equinox is especially roomy relative to competitors.

GM has officially introduced the new 2013 Chevrolet Malibu at Auto Shanghai 2011. The company has also provided further details about their upcoming model.
“The current Malibu has left an award-winning impression and changed the way people think about Chevrolet,” commented Susan Docherty, vice president of GMIO sales, marketing and aftersales.
“This all-new Malibu delivers on the intangibles of today’s Malibu but gives customers even more: more style, fuel efficiency, content and features, craftsmanship, and dynamic capabilities rivaling high-end sedans.”, she added.
The new Malibu has shorter wheelbase than its predecessor by 114 mm, but the track is wider – 1 574 mm, front and rear. The interior space is also more than the previous version of the model with 113 liters.
The Malibu will be built in manufacturing facilities around the world, including the US and China.

Another image of the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu has been published ahead of the car’s official Web reveal pegged for the night of Monday the 18th by--believe it or not--GM’s own media website. The latest image shows the Chinese market edition of the new sedan, though this car is virtually identical to the U.S. market version we saw leaked just a few days ago.
We can ascertain from the unmasked images, plus two previous official teasers, that the new 2013 Chevrolet Malibu will be quite the looker. A more streamlined body, sharper lines and a purposeful stance give the car a more premium look, which should bode well for its new global status.
That’s right. The new Malibu will be sold in nearly 100 countries on six continents.
There’s no word on whether the previous generation’s V-6 or hybrid powertrains will return but GM has stated in the past that its latest Malibu will feature a global family of fuel-efficient and powerful four-cylinder engines, along with six-speed transmissions.
Given the 2013 model-year designation, we don't expect to see the new Malibu on sale until sometime next year, with the current model filling in the gap until then. Expect full details via the live reveal on Monday, with the first public showings scheduled to take place at the 2011 Shanghai Auto Show on April 19 and then at the 2011 New York Auto Show just a couple of days later.

The top end two wheel drive is the 2WD 4dr 1500 Denali with a 6.2 liter, V8 engine. The four wheel drive Yukon comes in SLE and SLT versions with 5.3 liter V8 engine, and the AWD 4dr 1500 Denali is the top of the line for this model with a 6.2 liter engine.
The two wheel drive SLE engine is rated at 295 hp, while the SLE 4WD is equipped with a 320 hp engine with Active Fuel Management. The Denali models come with 403 hp engine. Hybrid 2WD and 4WD models are available with electric drive system and are rated at 332 hp.
All 2011 Yukon models feature six speed automatic transmission with electronic overdrive, and tow/haul mode and tap up/tap down shifting. The passenger capacities for the different models are:

PARIS (AFP) - The world's biggest car show opened on Thursday in Paris, but the razzmatazz was largely overshadowed by economic storm clouds looming over the industry. ADVERTISEMENT

In all, 362 marques from 25 countries are represented at the Mondial de Paris, a biennial car carnival, that attracted 1.43 million people on its last outing in 2006.

This year, in the conference areas behind the stands advertising 90 new models and a raft of new green technologies, auto executives are faced with a gloomy economic outlook.

Rising petrol prices, new environmental legislation and falling sales figures were already a concern when the event was in the planning stage.

Now the credit crunch could drain what fuel was left in the industry's tank.

The chairman of the BMW group, Norbert Reithofer, said he expected sales this year to be better than 2007, but that tough times were in store for 2009.

"Production may have to be adjusted downward," he said.

Renault chief Carlos Ghosn also said he expected a downturn.

"We are in the middle of a very unstable situation on the financial front that will translate into an economic slowdown," he said.

Business analysts Global Insight, in a report published on their website Wednesday, warned that tougher credit restrictions could see European car sales in September drop by a fifth.

"The combination has left September with annual selling rates heading towards levels last seen during the early 1990s recession," the analysis said.

Manufacturers have responded with a bright array of new models, particularly smaller cars designed to attract drivers concerned by high fuel prices and pollution.

Toyota will premiere three new cars in Paris: the new Avensis saloon, a scaled down off-roader called the Urban Cruiser and the tiny iQ micro-car.

The Japanese giant's local competitors will also be present in force.

Honda will unveil its Insight hybrid, designed to compete with Toyota's market-leading Prius as an eco-conscious family saloon, and Nissan its the all-electric concept car, the Nuvu.

From the United States, General Motors will for the first time show Europe the Volt, the electric motor driven wonder that the world's former number one hopes will revive its fortunes.

German manufacturers, long known for their fuel-hungry luxury behemoths, will respond to the Brussels environmental regulators breathing down their necks with a range of compact 4x4s.

French twins Peugeot and Citroen will also enter the diesel-electric hybrid market with the Prologue and the Hypnos.

Renault's equivalent is still at the concept car stage, dubbed the Ondelios.

The traditional petrol-driven market will also be well served.

At the mass market end of the spectrum motorists will be introduced to the umpteenth new version of Volkswagen's 34-year-old Golf hatchback, while fans of the rare and expensive will meet the all new Ferrari California.

Nevertheless, analysts admit the industry is far from optimistic about 2009.

"Launching new models in this context is not ideal," noted Mark Fulthorpe of CSM Worldwide.

Oil prices have begun to decline from historic highs since the world economy started to cool, leading some to hope for a boost in sales.

But just as the industry was drawing its breath, the credit crunch triggered by the US banking crisis stifled the once generous financing deals used to tempt buyers onto garage forecourts.

Bertrand Ratko, an expert at industry marketing experts RL Polk, said he did not expect sales to pick up any time soon, probably not before 2010.

"No-one is very optimistic and everyone is lowering their forecasts," he said.

The Paris motor show opened Thursday for the press and industry reps. From Saturday until October 19 it will be open to the public.

No V6? No problem for Sonata

With the price of gas these days, drivers are downsizing their vehicles, but not necessarily their footprint. In the midsize segment, "four is the new six," as smaller engines become more popular.

If you haven't driven one in a long time, these aren't the wheezy not-much-power plants that you might remember. They're efficient and they get the job done, including the 2.4 L that Hyundai puts in its Sonata. You can get a 3.3 L V6, but most drivers will find that the four-cylinder is just fine.

It's a little easier when you're writing up the bill, as well. The base GL, with a five-speed manual transmission, starts at $21,995. For another $1,400, you can replace the stick shift with a five-speed automatic, a step up from the four-speed autobox mated to the 2.4 L in 2008. All others use the automatic, including the GL Sport at $25,695, and my Limited tester, at $27,995. The V6 models start at $27,795 and go up to $31,495. Each model moves up with extra features, instead of adding options to a base trim line.

All come with anti-lock brakes, active front head restraints, and side and curtain airbags, but I don't like the fact electronic stability control is only on the V6 models, and can't be added to the four-cylinders.

Otherwise, the 2.4 L lineup comes with the expected list of items: the base GL includes a/c, two-stage heated seats, keyless entry, driver's auto up/down window, cruise control and windshield de-icer, while the Sport Package adds alloy wheels, fog lights and sunroof. The Limited tops it with leather upholstery, eight-way power driver's seat, automatic headlamps, dual-zone auto climate control, auto-dimming mirror, six-CD stereo and garage door opener. There's also an iPod interface, which hides the device inside the console box, and allows you to control it via the wheel-mounted buttons.

I've not had a chance to drive the manual transmission, but the new five-speed automatic gives the car more level performance throughout its range. There's no gear hunting on hills, and fuel economy improves slightly from 2008.

A manual mode is included for those who like to pretend they're shifting. (I've never quite understood the point beyond the novelty factor.)

The four-cylinder is quiet on all but the hardest acceleration, moving smoothly away from stop lights but still providing enough power to get by traffic on the highway, where the car is well-planted and very good for extended trips. In short, I'd put it up favourably against most V6 models.

Most 150mph roadsters impose themselves upon the driver. Be it through a rock hard performance suspension set up, deafening wind noise at speed or a low slung body thats impossible to exit with any dignity. Not so Chryslers Crossfire Roadster. This is an open top car that mixes style and road presence with a bigger serving of decorum than youd perhaps imagine.

A lot of work has gone into making the Roadster look as good as it does. Right from the outset, Chrysler were not interested in making the usual wobbly soft top conversion, adding a full 80lbs of strengthening to the chassis in order to prevent body flex. "The ultimate measure of a roadsters engineering is how noisy the vehicle is with the top up and the Crossfire Roadster is remarkably quiet at speed," a Chrysler engineered remarked to us when we collected the car. "We designed this vehicle to be a high-speed roadster, and the result is a stunning convertible that is tight, solid and well engineered and one which also looks great with the top raised." He had a point. Many roadsters look as if theyre wearing an ill-fitting toupee with the top up but the Crossfire looks stubby and purposeful. Some will find it even better looking than the coupe original. With a conventional electric-folding fabric roof, top up to top down takes 22 seconds after the driver has pulled the ripcord shaped handle in the windscreen header and pressed the button on the centre console.

The Crossfire then takes over, dropping the side windows, opening the hard tonneau cover, stowing the roof out of sight and returning the tonneau to its original position. With the roof down, the Crossfire Roadster looks for all the world as if it had been designed from the outset as a drop top, the muscular sweep of the hip line giving it a tension lacking from so many other convertibles. This is one car that can never stand accused of looking skip-like in any way, shape or form. With the roof down, you wont get too much in the way of luggage in the L-shaped boot.

With 104 litres of room available, theres just about enough room for a couple of small, squashy holdalls. Front legroom isnt great as a consequence of the air conditioning systems positioning but other than that, the Roadster is a surprisingly practical proposition. All round visibility is fairly good, helped in no small part by the heated glass rear window. Dont forget that this is a sporting car, though, and when pressed into action, the 3.

2-litre Mercedes-sourced V6 makes some encouraging noises, the howls and barks from the exhaust giving it a more exciting feel than many allegedly more sporting rivals.

Powered by that 217bhp six, the £27,285 3.2V6 Crossfire Roadster boasts a respectable turn of speed, making 60mph in 6.3 seconds and running straight and true at an indicated maximum of 150mph. If thats not enough, theres a 330bhp SRT-6 model on offer but youve to find over £35,000 for it.

Buyers get to choose between a six-speed manual transmission or a five-speed automatic with tiptronic style control. Of the two, the automatic is the preferable option, largely due to the fact that the manual is a disappointment. The long, vague throw of the gearchange coupled with a flabby clutch action takes much of the enjoyment out of winding the Crossfire up through the gears. Chrysler made a deliberate decision to put the biggest rubberwear they could get away with on the Crossfire and the massive 19-inch 255/35 series rear tyres generate enormous grip.

Couple that with fat anti-roll bars, a multilink rear suspension and a body with massive torsional rigidity and you have a recipe for a car that corners flat and true. And so it proves. Although the steering isnt class leading - the turning circle may well be visible from space - but the Crossfire just grips and goes through corners that would have many rivals raggedly probing the edges of the handling envelopes. Deactivate the stability control system and youll need some determined buffoonery to relinquish grip.

Whats perhaps more surprising is that the Crossfire rides so well.
